A novel chenodeoxycholic derivative HS-1200 enhances radiation-induced apoptosis in MCF-7 cells.
HS-1200, a synthetic chenodeoxycholic acid derivative, has cytotoxic activity in various human cancer cells. The present study was undertaken to examine whether HS-1200 sensitizes radiation-induced apoptosis in MCF-7 human breast carcinoma cells. Clonogenic assay elucidated that the combination treatment with HS-1200 and radiation induced more cytotoxic effects than the radiation treatment alon...
متن کاملCharacterization of enantiomeric bile acid-induced apoptosis in colon cancer cell lines.
Bile acids are steroid detergents that are toxic to mammalian cells at high concentrations; increased exposure to these steroids is pertinent in the pathogenesis of cholestatic disease and colon cancer. Understanding the mechanisms of bile acid toxicity and apoptosis, which could include nonspecific detergent effects and/or specific receptor activation, has potential therapeutic significance. I...
متن کاملBile acid hydrophobicity is correlated with induction of apoptosis and/or growth arrest in HCT116 cells.
Faecal bile acids have long been associated with colon cancer; highly hydrophobic bile acids, which induce apoptosis, have been implicated in the promotion of colon tumours. The moderately hydrophobic chemopreventive agent ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) does not induce apoptosis; rather, it causes colon-derived tumour cells to arrest their growth. To investigate the relationship between bile acid ...
متن کاملBile acids: regulation of apoptosis by ursodeoxycholic acid.
Bile acids are a group of molecular species of acidic steroids with peculiar physical-chemical and biological characteristics. At high concentrations they become toxic to mammalian cells, and their presence is pertinent in the pathogenesis of several liver diseases and colon cancer. Bile acid cytoxicity has been related to membrane damage, but also to nondetergent effects, such as oxidative str...
متن کاملPreparation of Alkyl Esters of Pectin and Pectic Acid
Alkyl esters of pectin and pectic acid have been prepared via three different synthetic routes. Enhancements of intrinsic viscosity, binding to bile acids and to isolated soy protein were shown for these novel pectin derivatives. The development of new and improved pectin-containing products may be enhanced by the ease of preparation and improved functionality of such compounds.
